I can't believe how long it has been since I have written on the blog. As evidence, photos from Mother's Day have been sitting in my draft file. Finally, I have a moment to think and write. Mother's Day Singapore!!!!! What an event. Back in Terrace Park, we had the incredible fortune to be a part of the Jeff Mills' Mother's Day concept wherein the Dads and the kids all gather early in the morning to start the cooking and the prep. For weeks prior, Jeff organizes all of the elements and delegates to the other dads - food, flowers, rental table, linens, drinks, etc. On the actual day, the moms are treated to a blissful couple of hours at home alone while they all go off to prepare (except for dear Meghan who I guess has the option of locking her bedroom door). Anyway, as Mother's Day approached this year, I found myself longing for the TP version. Luckily Chris Froah decided to start Mother's Day East and replicated the concept here. He reserved the function room at his condo which is nicely kitted out with an industrial kitchen. The men got to work. See the photos. Really great families and fantastic food. The champagne did not disappoint either.
One of the things I love about Singapore is the fact that social gatherings on weekends seem to go on forever. This is one of the things I loved about living in London too. When people gather for Sunday lunch in the UK, it's not about eating and running as we would do in the US. It turns into a leisurely afternoon and the hours melt into each other.
Mother's Day was most interesting in that it took somewhat of a dive in the etiquette department. You'll see the progression in the photos from a very sophisticated lunch at the beginning all the way to the making of a "Singapore Shake" video. Words cannot describe the fun that was had that day, so watch the photos and the video. I'm pretty sure that the Froahs will be explaining to their children for a very long time why it's not ok to jump on the couch despite the fact that it played a starring role in the dance party. No, there will not be a Father's Day remake. The Dads have opted for a weekend away playing golf in Bintan. Sounds like a spa opportunity for mommy :-)
